Movado Watches

POSTED: July 19, 2007 1:15 pm

The center of Swiss watch making in La Chaux-de-Fonds has produced some of worlds premier manufacturers of precision timepieces. With over one hundred and twenty five years of making fine watches and other timepieces, the Movado Company has distinguished itself as an innovator in engineering and design. Pocket watches have been around since the end of the fifteenth century and followed a basic design that companies like Movado have improved on over the years, with precision and craftsmanship unrivaled in the industry. Master watchmaker Achilles Ditesheim started the company in 1881 and it was not long before his efforts began to receive international recognition and acclaim.

The terms movement, motion or always in motion are represented as movado in the language of Esperanto. Esperanto was designed to be an international language and was developed in the late eighteen hundreds by a Polish ophthalmologist. The choice of the name Movado was a logical one and certainly reflects the bare essence of timepiece construction and operation. Movado designs have emphasized the simplicity of form following function with clean uncluttered dial faces and bezels combined with extremely precise jeweled movements.

The Movado line has grown over the years though has never lost focus on accuracy and craftsmanship. The current line includes a variety of highly prized luxury wrist watches to more affordable timepieces that are suitable for everyday wear. Movado watches are still manufactured in the Switzerland and can be found the world over. Like many makers of fine timepieces, Movado is not immune to the seedy business of cheap knockoffs and outright fakes being sold as the genuine article. Buyers of fine watches should always be wary when the price seems a little too good to be true. Always consult a trained, reputable professional whenever purchasing a fine timepiece.
