Omega Watches

Known today for producing very accurate watches designed around precisely manufactured quartz movements, Omega watches have been hailed by pilots, astronauts and divers for their reliability and rugged good looks. Capitalizing on its well-deserved reputation, Omega has achieved worldwide recognition and notoriety though brilliant marketing and product placement. From the undisputed watch making capital of the world, Omega timepieces have been manufactured in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland since the company was founded over 150 years ago. Like many young watch makers of his day, founder Louis Brandt struggled to establish a reputation for the quality and craftsmanship that have made Swiss watches the best in the world. In the early days sales were confined largely to neighboring countries in Europe.

The efforts of the founder have certainly paid off though the company has seen of its share of trials and turmoil over its long and storied history. Today the Omega brand is one of the recognizable in the world. Omega watches are considered by many to be one of the most collectible timepieces in the world. These precisely accurate wristwatches were a favorite among pilot during both World Wars and Omega watches have been worn by such notable figures in aviation history as Apollo astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong. Armstrong landed on the moon wearing an Omega chronograph. Omega watches were the choice of the National Aeronautical and Space Administration for use on manned space flights during the decade of the nineteen sixties.

Older Omega models are high prized by collectors and timekeeping aficionados and can be quite expensive. The modern Omega models continue to reflect the Omega tradition of style and function and still command a premium price. Buyers of fine should watches should always on the lookout for fakes and be wary of a price that sounds just a little too good to be true.
